Even more admirable is the community’s commitment to maintaining that by protecting and conserving Noosa’s natural assets which was declared a Unesco Biosphere Reserve in 2007, the first in Queensland covering 150,000 hectares.

The area is rich in biodiversity with more than 300 bird species (that is almost half of Australians total bird varieties) 1300 plant species, 60 distinct ecosystems and hundreds of native animals. About 35% of Noosa is protected national park and it is an important pathway to over 20,000 whales annually during their migration.

Noosa is the 20th World Surfing Reserve chosen for its beautiful point breaks and visionary coastal conversation. This ensures visitors have access to the crystal clear surfing waves for years to come.

In 2018 our Plastic Free Champions eliminated 1.6 million pieces of single-use plastic from the Noosa community. Plastic Free Noosa works with cafes, restaurants, alerts and major events to eliminate the use of six key plastic items commonly used — plastic water bottles, straws, coffee cups & lids, takeaway containers, plastic cutlery & crockery, and plastic bags.
